Scientific projects

In addition to pedagogical activities, the Klokner Institute of the CTU is also engaged in significant scientific and research activities that consistently help the University to increase respect in the domestic and international scientific community. In the areas of scientific research, the KI deals mainly with the solution to projects within the framework of grant competitions, agencies and international cooperation.

3D PRINTING IN CONSTRUCTION AND ARCHITECTURE

Prepared: rok 2018 až 2022

Aim of the project: Research and verification of the use of 3D printing technology in construction and architecture was conducted as part of this project. The research focused on the development of a robotic device capable of building structures from suitable building materials in an ambulatory manner. As part of the project, a conceptual solution of a printing robot was developed, some parts of which were verified on functional samples. At the same time, suitable building materials were researched and developed, and optimal building construction principles using the unique possibilities of this technology were sought that are usable in contemporary construction and architecture.

OPTIMIZATION OF MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF INFORMATION ON MONUMENTAL BUILDINGS

Project: NAKI DG16P02M050

Prepared: rok 2016 až 2019

Aim of the project: The applied research project focused on the optimization of diagnostic procedures to increase the efficiency and quality of the processes and prevention activities of historical monument preservation while minimizing costs. Optimized procedures included visual inspections, construction-technical surveys and long-term monitoring of structures with an emphasis on the use of non-destructive procedures.

The main goal was to provide operational tools and data for decision-making on the monitoring of masonry and metal structures in particular.

The sub-objectives of the project included choosing a diagnostic procedure and setting priorities for intervention depending on the type of a historical structure, its condition and cultural value; development of gentle diagnostic procedures – specification of structural and degradation models for prediction of degradation; optimization of diagnostic systems to select appropriate methods, locations and frequency of monitoring; basis for decision-making on measures and conceptual design of repairs.

LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS WITH REINFORCEMENT

Prepared: year 2016 to 2019

Aim of the project: The project dealt with the technology of placing the reinforcement and the methodology of the static design of the reinforcement in the composition of laminated safety glasses. The proposed principle assumed the suspension of large-area facade glasses (building shell) behind a flat reinforcing insert which was placed in the connection films between the laminated glasses.

The main goal of the project was to develop the potential in the field of laminated glass with reinforcement, i.e., solutions in the field of advanced materials and technologies. The project applicants had a comprehensive overview of the possibilities and market capacity within the Czech Republic and Europe in the field of glass applications in investment construction projects and are based on long-term experience from research and experimental activities to date.

The main outputs were two utility models and two industrial models.

A secondary output was the filing of a patent application.
