International Scientific Cooperation

The Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University acts as a leading workplace in a number of international scientific collaborations, the result of which are new research procedures for assessing the safety of buildings. The development of international cooperation depends not only on the projects managed by the KI but also on those in which it actively participates as team support.

Cooperation with OTH Regensburg

An example of long-term international scientific cooperation is the partnership of the Klokner Institute with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule (OTH) Regensburg. The institutions jointly develop activities in the following areas:

  • analysis of historical structures
  • monitoring optimization
  • cost optimization of building structures, including repairs to existing structures and designing bridges and tunnels
  • risk assessment of technological systems in power engineering
  • assessment of the influence of climate change on the design of building structures

Currently, experts from both universities are jointly dealing with the issue of optimal design of building structures and optimization of infrastructures for energy within the Joint Committee on Structural Safety JCSS, FIB, and within the Regensburg Center of Energy and Resources.

Cooperation with research institutes and technical universities

The international scientific cooperation between the Klokner Institute and research workplaces is at such a high level thanks to the participation of top foreign institutions which always have a common goal in mind, namely the safety of building structures. The most important partner companies of the KI include:

  • Réunion internationale des Laboratoires d´Essai et de Recherches sur Matériaux et les Constructions (RILEM)
  • International Council for Building Research Studies and Documentation (CIB)
  • International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE)
  • International Federation for Structural Concrete (FIB)
  • Wissenschaftlich-Technische Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur Bauwerkserhaltung und Denkmalpflege E.V (WTA)
  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
  • European Committee for Standardization (CEN)
  • Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS)
  • LafargeHolcim Research & Development (R&D), France (advanced static and dynamic testing of UHPC)
  • Politecnico di Torino a Torroja Institute, Madrid (reliability of concrete structures)
  • TNO and TU Delft (reliability of structures and risk assessment, structural glass)
  • TU Ghent (reliability of concrete and glass structures),
  • de Coimbra – Pólo II (glass structures)
  • University of Stellenbosch, JAR (structural design principles)
  • JRC Ispra (reliability of structures, climatic changes on building structures, loads during terrorist attacks)
